Mark Jones, a 34-year-old father, recently fell into a diabetic coma after he hadn’t eaten for a long stretch of time and had forgotten to take his glucose tablets as scheduled.
Jones collapsed to the kitchen floor. His wife hadn’t been home at the time; she’d literally just stepped out to check on her parents. Jones was home alone with his three-year-old son, Lenny-George.
But as Jones lay there, it didn’t take long for Lenny-George to figure out what was wrong — and what he needed to do to fix it.
Lenny-George dragged a chair to the fridge and tugged it open, grabbing out two Muller Crunch Corners yogurts. When he couldn’t reach the proper utensil drawer, Lenny-George rushed over to his play kitchen for a plastic knife, which he then used to feed his father the two yogurts, bite by bite.
Thankfully, Jones soon came around and was well enough to rise and take his forgotten glucose tablets.
By the time Emma, Lenny-George’s mother and Jones’ husband, returned home, Jones had dragged himself to the couch.
“It was a Sunday night, I needed to nip to my mum’s, which is literally two minutes around the corner by car, and I left them watching CBeebies together,” Emma explained. “I’d been out for about 30 minutes and when I got back they were lying on the sofa. Mark didn’t look well, so I said, ‘What’s going on here?’”
That was when Lenny declared, “I saved Daddy!”
Lenny had, in fact, fed his father the sweet yogurt just in time before Jones had fallen completely into a potentially fatal diabetic coma.
What stunned Emma the most was the fact that Lenny figured out how to do this all by himself. No one had ever explained to him what it meant for Jones to have diabetes. “Lenny must have seen [Jones] unwell in the past and watched me go to the fridge to get him food,” Emma speculated.
“[Lenny] does have a mischievous side, a typical little boy running around at 100mph and never listening to his mum which is why it’s so much more amazing what he’s done!” Emma laughed.
