This 9-Year-Old Girl Shaves Her Head To Support Her Mother's Fight Against Cancer

When Liz Revis was diagnosed with cancer, she felt fortunate to have the support of her family and friends, but she never anticipated that her nine-year-old daughter would become one of her biggest cheerleaders in such a huge way.

Mother-of-two, Liz Revis, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer just a year ago, but despite receiving treatment for it, she’s already been told that the disease has spread to her lungs, liver, and lymph nodes.

Still, Revis continues to fight for her life, knowing that she has the unconditional support of beloved friends and family members – particularly that of her nine-year-old daughter, Leila.

When Revis’ continued chemotherapy treatment caused her hair to begin falling out, she realized she was faced with two choices: “Either wait for my hair to thin and fall out or take charge and do it myself,” she said.

Revis went with the latter option and decided to go all out by throwing a “shaving party.”

It was at this shaving party that Revis realized how strongly her daughter, Leila, was supporting her. After Revis shaved her hair, Leila then asked if she could shave hers as well.

“I got completely choked up when she asked if she could shave a patch of her hair too. To my knowledge no one had encouraged her, or spoken to her about it at all,” Revis admitted.  “At 9 years old, for her to come up with something like that, I’m blown away.”

To a certain extent, Revis isn’t surprised by her daughter’s actions. “Leila has always been super sensitive, and intuitive to others’ feelings,” she explained. But she confessed, “I was overcome because she wanted to be there for me. And she wanted to show others where she stands too.”

As for Revis’ younger child, Hendrix, her four-year-old son, he remembers to tell his mother, every night before he goes to bed and every morning when he wakes up, that she’s a “pretty mama.”

For Revis, despite all the pain and challenges she’s gone through because of her disease, she continues to put her all into fighting to survive and overcome it. Her love and admiration, even, for her own children are her the reasons why she knows she will continue to wake up each day and fight until she wins.

“Where some people might be alone and afraid, I have the backing of a mighty team. How could I be anything but brave?”
