As we age, varicose veins become more and more of a risk. Though they’re not necessarily painful, they do kind of make us feel self conscious and they can even be uncomfortable.
What causes them? A lot of it is hormones, which is why pregnant women are so prone to them. But usually, these veins go away within three months of the pregnancy. ##MN_RESP##
Sometimes we can’t help them, but there are lots of ways to prevent them. A few of them are just common sense, such as exercising and avoiding weight gain. But some of them include some pretty cool home remedies that can help you soothe them when they do occur.
- Use St. John’s wort oil. Rubbing it into inflamed areas can help you relieve those varicose veins.
- Give yourself a leg massage. Massaging your legs with coconut oil in upward strokes can improve leg circulation and encourage blood flow out of your legs to your heart.
- Elevate your legs for ten minutes every day.
- Make sure your clothes aren’t too tight.
- Avoid sitting or standing for too long.
- Because varicose veins can be aggravated by calcium deficiency, be sure you’re getting your daily recommended dose of calcium.
- Do adequate ankle stretches.
- Try acupuncture to improve your leg circulation.
- Try dry-brushing your legs. Use a natural hair brush to brush your legs from the ankles up in a circular motion. This can brush off dead skin, improve circulation, and discourage development of varicose veins to boot.
- Eat high-fiber foods and stay hydrated
Varicose veins are something everyone wants to avoid. With the right prevention and care tools, they don’t have to be such a bother.
