Police in California have finally tracked down a mother who has been accused of abandoning her 5-year-old daughter near the San Francisco Zoo earlier this week.
According to CBS San Francisco, around 8:30 p.m. on Monday, several witnesses saw a car come to a stop right before a little girl was shoved out.
Police say that after the girl was thrown to the side of the road, the female driver of the vehicle began tossing several items out of the car.
Authorities have also revealed that witnesses told them a man was also seen leaving the area on a skateboard around the time of the incident.
According to CBS San Francisco, when the woman in the car sped away from the scene, witnesses noticed that she also had a 1-year-old baby in the vehicle with her.
Fortunately, an ambulance just happened to be driving by right after the 5-year-old was thrown from the vehicle, so she was rescued just in the nick of time.
Authorities investigating the case have since announced that the male on the skateboard has been identified as the 1-year-old baby’s father, though he is not the 5-year-old girl’s father.
Investigators believe that the man exited the car on his skateboard before the little girl was thrown from the vehicle, which means he likely did not see what had happened.
According to police, the female driver has been identified as the mother of both children.
On Tuesday evening, authorities got in touch with the infant’s father, who has reportedly been cooperative.
SFPD Special Victims Unit investigators and Child Protective Services later found the baby with a babysitter in Oakland, according to police.
Child Protective Services now has custody of both children, authorities say.
Although the children’s mother has since surrendered herself to police, it still remains unclear if charges have been filed against her or the baby’s father.
At this time, investigators have yet to reveal why the mother abandoned her older child.
CBS San Francisco has since shared this bizarre story on Facebook, where many commenters demanded that police keep these children away from their mother.
“So many good people out there that can't get pregnant and you have a psycho b**** like this that doesn't even deserve an animal let alone a precious child God Bless the Child hope they find a loving caring home !!” one woman wrote.
“Very sad - hoping this child will be placed in a loving, responsible home setting,” another added.
