A Chinese girl from Changshun County, China was playing with her cousins when a target dart, which was four inches long, went straight into her forehead, a centimeter above the eyebrow, and almost piercing her right eye, according to Huanqiu, an affiliation with the People’s Daily Online, as obtained by the Daily Mail.
The girl, who is only six years old, was playing with her cousins. One of her cousins saw a dart from the side of a road with the union jack symbol printed on its wings and picked it up. The cousin aimlessly threw it, and the poor girl became the unfortunate target.
The girl was immediately taken to the hospital. She was first taken to intensive care before moving to the general ward after her situation was somehow solved.
The parents of the girl were working at the time the accident happened. The girl’s grandparents had to notify the two about what happened to their daughter. The parents traveled back home as soon as they heard of the accident.
At first, the girl was taken to Changshun County People’s Hospital. But since her situation is so severe it’s almost threatens her life, she was taken to a more comprehensive hospital, according to the Daily Mail.
Initial concerns focused on the potential or probable damage of the brain tissue. The dart was that long and sharp that it pierced through the skull.
The girl’s mother told the reporters of Huanqiu that a neurosurgeon, a doctor that specializes in anything related to the brain, was brought in to take a look at the situation because a normal on-duty doctor won’t be enough or not experienced enough for such a threatening case.
The girl was then taken for surgery. It took five minutes to remove the dart from her forehead and ten more minutes to stop the bleeding from her head. Xu Yuan, the doctor who was on duty, said that the surgical procedure seemed very simple and straight to the point but it was actually very dangerous and intricate.
The girl’s head was finally scanned and the result showed that her brain tissue remained intact, meaning the dart fortunately did not damage her.
Hope this incident would serve a lesson to all children that although being curious is healthy and should be encouraged, every object that may be found in a compromised area or place should always be handled with care or ask an adult to dispose it.
