Lee Hardy, 24 years old, claimed that a recommended hair wax called VO5 Rework Putty caused his entire hair to fall out and left jarring scars on his head, Elite Daily reports.

Hardy, who’s a father from Leeds, England, used the product on January. The product, which cost $5, made Hardy’s head develop sores.

Hardy, who works as a builder, said, “I have used the product in the past and didn’t have any issues, but I bought a new pot in January and started using it again. After using the product for a few days, my head started to become dry and itchy.”

He continued, “I used the putty to spike my hair up in the center, and that’s the part of my scalp that has been directly affected. It was OK for a couple of days, but then I noticed dry skin on my scalp.”

Things, however, escalated rather quickly. The condition of Hardy’s hair got worse. He lost so much hair, he might as well just shave everything clean.

Hardy said, “When I looked in the mirror, I was horrified and my hair was falling out in clumps. Around five days later, my hair started to fall out and I noticed a few lumps on my head.”

He continued, “From there it just got worse, and I’ve since shaved my head, as I couldn’t cover up the hair loss any longer and I am desperate to get to the bottom of it.”

Hardy claimed that he already contacted customer service of VO5 and notified the company about what the hair wax did to his head.

Hardy also claimed that the customer service representative did not express any sympathy or just little to no concern at all. The representative offered Hardy only $25 for a voucher as a consolation for what happened to him.

Hardy said, “Why would I need voucher for hair products when I have just lost my hair, it was an insult.” The builder made a valid point there.

A spokesperson for Unilever said, “As we have not had any other complaints about our product, we would welcome the opportunity to investigate further.”

The spokesperson continued, “As a company the safety and quality of our products is our top priority and we have been in touch with Lee to arrange for the return of the product so that we can continue our investigation and test the product in question.”

Hardy said that he will continue to pursue this incident until he discover what was in the product that cause his head to go completely bald and scarred.
