When twins Miracle and Testimony Ayeni were born in Nigeria, they were conjoined at the pelvis. Their parents took them to see many doctors. No one, not their local doctors to doctors at three different major hospitals, was able to operate on the girls and separate them.
The doctors, however, didn’t give up there.
They continued to conduct research on the Ayenis’ case, and after months of research, were finally able to find doctors in the States, located at Le Bonheur hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, who would be able to provide this critical service to the girls.
There, doctors were willing to perform the separation operation – without charge.
Once Arik Air, a Nigerian airline, heard about the Ayenis’ story, they offered the entire family and their pastor free tickets to travel to the US for the procedure.
Finally, on November 7 and 8, right on the eve of their first birthday, Miracle and Testimony underwent the 18-hour surgery to be separated.
The procedure was an incredible success; both girls are currently recovering well in the hospital, despite it being only two weeks after the procedure.
Although the girls had two sets of legs between them, there hasn’t been any word thus far on how their future development will progress.
