This Grandfather Proves He Doesn't Need The Elderly Passenger Seat On The Subway

It’s common courtesy to offer your seat to elderly passengers on public transportation. However, when this grandfather was offered an available seat, he turned it down – and amazed everyone in the process.

Barker and McEntire were riding the subway when one of the seated passengers thought to offer the white-haired McEntire one of the preferred spots reserved for elderly, pregnant, or otherwise handicapped passengers.

According to Barker, his grandfather kindly turned down the offer before proceeding to do this:

Barker’s brother, Barrett, recalled, “With no hesitation, [McEntire] grabbed the pole and hoisted himself up with ease.”

Barrett also added that his grandpa works out every day by doing “lightweight and maximum reps because it is better for his joints.”

Did he know that his grandpa would put on such a show?

“[McEntire’s] always been one to put on a show and entertain me and my two brothers,” Barrett said, “So I knew he had something that would surely surprise me in store just by the way I saw him walk over to the empty seat.”

Britton shared three photos of the entire exchange on Twitter when the incident happened on Thursday. The tweet has been retweeted over 100,000 times since.
