Less than two weeks after seven-year-old Brogan Lei Partridge walked down the aisle in her parents’ wedding, she was fighting for her life in a hospital bed. When Brogan accompanied her parents on their honeymoon in Cornwall, she contracted a mysterious infection.

Brogan’s mother, Aimee Partridge, noticed a rash on Brogan’s skin and immediately took her daughter to the doctor. The doctor didn’t hesitate before rushing Brogan to a hospital.

At the hospital, Brogan was diagnosed with a deadly bacterial infection, meningitis B. The infection had progressed rapidly, manifesting on Brogan’s young body as a deep red, purple rash that overtook most of her legs. Doctors worried that the infection had already done so much damage that they would have to amputate one of Brogan’s feet.

Thankfully, Brogan responded well to initial treatment, and the doctors determined that they didn’t have to remove her entire foot, just a few of her toes.

Brogan’s road to recovery, however, requires much more than this initial treatment. Other children, who haven’t been vaccinated against this infection, have died from meningitis in recent years. Brogan, herself, is now too old by government standards to receive the immunization.

Her infection is also quite serious. It’s not just a rash. “Deep and dark tissue damage is visible and a lot of surgery will be required,” Brogan’s aunt said.

The Partridge family are hoping to raise some money to help cover Brogan’s medical bills.
