Chipotle has had a wild ride this year. In early 2016, it was discovered that Chipotle’s food products and food handling practices had caused an E. coli outbreak, causing many (but not all) of Chipotle’s customers to part ranks in fear of illness.

Thankfully, the popular food chain has really worked on improving its food handling practices and health safety regulations, meaning it’s safe to resume your passionate Chipotle purchasing habits.

The restaurant chain has also done its best to encourage its customers to return to its storefronts by upgrading and updating its offerings.

In April, Chipotle began to offer margaritas, sangria, and beer at some of its storefronts to entice passerby. They also introduced some virgin beverages as well, like watermelon agua fresca and hibiscus tea with lemongrass.

For the summer months, Chipotle is introducing its Chiptopia loyalty program, where you can get free chips and guac with your order and build store credit to earn your way to free meals.

Chipotle’s most recent improvement was just introduced today in five cities: Columbus, New York; Sacramento; San Diego; and Denver.

For the first time since 2014, the food chain is making a significant change to its food menu. Alongside its usual burrito and burrito bowl fillings of tofu sofritas, steak, chicken, carnitas, and barbacoa, Chipotle is now also offering chorizo.

The chorizo available at Chipotle is made from a mixture of chicken and pork, seasoned with paprika, toasted cumin, and chipotle peppers.

Keep your fingers crossed – if the test run at these five cities goes well, all Chipotle locations may start offering chorizo by early fall!
