When it comes to taking care of our bodies, most of us try sticking to a routine that helps us multi-task as often as possible.
Maybe you make a healthy smoothie in the morning so you can eat breakfast on the go; or you read at the gym to squeeze in a workout while doing your homework.
At some point, we all have to cut corners—there just aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done on time!
But the old saying “kill two birds with one stone” really only works if you’re not sacrificing while multi-tasking.
One surprising place we shouldn’t do this: the shower.
It’s hard to believe, but many skin experts say washing your face in the shower is a big no-no if you want to keep your complexion looking flawless.
While speaking with The Glow, Dermatologist, Dr. Michael Freeman, insists that a hot steamy shower can easily damage sensitive skin.
“[You] should use lukewarm to cold water, which is better for delicate faces. A cold finish stimulates circulation and can be hugely beneficial to the overall glow of your skin,” Freeman advises.
In fact, using hot water to wash your face can actually enhance annoying skin problems that many of us try to cover up.
“Hot water and temperatures will dilate blood vessels and capillaries — that can leave skin red and aggravate conditions like rosacea, which ultimately leads to broken and permanently dilated vessels.” Dr. Rachel Nazarian told Marie Claire.
Even worse, what most people don’t realize is that washing your face in the shower makes you more prone to clogging your pores with residue from shampoo, conditioner, or body soap.
This is why it’s so important to get into the habit of washing your face in the sink—with lukewarm water—twice a day, depending on your skin type.
