After being asked to appear on the TLC show Too Ugly For Love? a young woman in the UK has decided to post several selfies, proudly showing off her large facial birthmark.

23-year-old Lexxie Harford recently turned down several offers to appear on reality TV shows, including Channel 4's The Undateables, and instead opened up an online discussion for curious people to ask any questions they want about her unique birthmark.

Lexxie, a character artist, didn’t realize she was “different” until she was about 9-years-old; throughout her teenage years, she began experimenting with heavy makeup to cover the birthmark.

Then, one day, for no reason at all, the brave young woman decided to stop hiding her birthmark from the outside world and “it's never bothered me since.”

So, after thinking it over, Lexxie posted several beautiful selfies on Imgur and answered all the questions she usually hears from strangers who don’t know much about facial birthmarks.

“A lot of people are curious, or a lot of people with birthmarks cover them, so I like to raise awareness,” she said.

Although a few of the comments were totally rude and uncalled for, Lexxie insists that most of the questions have been overwhelmingly kind and positive.

“I've gotten the odd asshole who asked who hit me, but it's been rare,” she said. “Sometimes I'm asked if it's a bruise. Doesn't offend me.”

Once her photos went viral on social media, Lexxie revealed that she hopes her self-acceptance will encourage others to think twice before making assumptions about somebody they don’t know.

“The next time they see someone with a birthmark they won't forget. They'll know what it is and they won't get freaked out,” she said.
