Are you feeling down in the dumps, or like you just can’t seem to focus?
There are a lot of ways that what you drink can affect your gut bacteria, so maybe it’s time to try one or two of these things and see if you feel better.
- Green tea. This stuff is great for when you’re feeling bone-tired. It has L-theanine, which has the same effect on your brain as meditation. It’ll leave you feeling energized without the violent burst of energy from coffee.
- Kefir smoothie. This stuff in a smoothie gives you the benefit of probiotics, which research as shown is great for your mood. Some studies even say it may be a real depression treatment.
- Chamomile tea. There’s a tea for every mood, and this one is great for when you’re feeling stressed out. Chamomile tea is great for soothing anxiety and irritability, since it helps counteract cortisol, the hormone that causes stress (and makes you gain weight.) ##MN_RESP##
- Chai tea. This stuff is great for when you’re feeling frustrated or angry and you want to cool down. It has cinnamon in it, which not only smells and tastes good, but is great for feeling more alert and less frustrated. It also helps stabilize your blood sugar, which can minimize hunger from mood swings.
- Tart cherry juice. Cherries are full of melatonin and tryptophan, both of which are great for helping you sleep. This isn’t good for the middle of the work day, but it’s great for those nights when you find yourself lying awake.
- Warm water with lemon. This particular drink will help you stay focused. First, because staying hydrated is one of the best ways to stay focused, and because even smelling a lemon has been shown to improve your focus.
