For years, vegans and lactose intolerant people have been waiting for a non-dairy ice cream that tastes more like real ice cream and less like sweetened air.
Well, that long-awaited day may finally be here! In a recent interview with Metro, co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s, Jerry Greenfield, revealed that the beloved ice cream company is working on its very first non-dairy product.
He said he truly believes that a non-dairy ice cream created by Ben & Jerry’s would mean a lot to those who can’t digest dairy properly.
“I think that’s a big thing for Ben & Jerry’s to be doing that,” Greenfield said. “In the US there are [dairy free] alternatives from smaller companies but Ben & Jerry’s will be first mainstream company that will do that and will also do it in a really delicious way.”
As far as ingredients go, Greenfield told Metro that the company was already thinking about using either coconut milk or almond milk as the replacement for the usual cow milk.
Though the non-dairy ice cream in expected to arrive in the U.S. by next spring, it should be hitting shelves in England just a little later in 2016!
