5 Everyday Drinks You Didn't Know Could Burn Fat

What if we were to tell you that there are a quite a few common fat-burning drinks out there--ones that you probably already have in your kitchen or already consume everyday? Click here to learn more!

When you think about "burning fat," it's likely that you start to think about certain superfoods or even that killer kickboxing class you had last week. For many, burning fat is something that takes time and energy.

What if we were to tell you that there are a quite a few common fat-burning drinks out there--ones that you probably already have in your kitchen or already consume everyday?

If you're just starting out on a diet, or if you're looking for an excuse to keep a few of your favorite drinks around, look no further--you probably shouldn't give up your glass of red wine just yet!

1. Red wine (or grape juice!).
As if you needed another reason to pop open another bottle of wine tonight! According to new research, dark-colored Muscadine grapes--the kind commonly used in red wines and grape juices--contain a chemical called ellagic acid which drastically slowed the growth of existing fat cells, as well as the formation of new ones. That means that your body burns fat better! Ellagic acid also can boost your metabolism, and another study found that it can actually lower your blood sugar! Moderation is key, though.

2. Green tea.
Researchers at Penn State University found that a combination of green tea and exercise can boost weight loss. They believe that the green tea modulates genes related to metabolism--when it speeds up, your body creates less fat. If you find yourself reaching for another cup of coffee in the afternoon, try swapping it out for a green tea--it could help you burn serious fat!

3. Turmeric tea.
An animal study from Tufts University found that curcumin, a substance found in turmeric, suppresses the expansion and growth of fat tissue by decreasing the development of new blood vessels in fat tissue. While researchers have not tested this in humans, other studies have shown that curcumin can prevent against viruses and ease symptoms of depression--so it's definitely worth adding to your diet!

4. Water.
Everyone underestimates the power of water, but in order to keep things running smoothly, you need to stay hydrated. If your body is dehydrated, your liver has to work harder and your metabolism slows down. Not to mention, water can help you feel fuller, so chug away! Looking for something to add to your water so it isn't so boring? Try this fat-burning water recipe!

5. Coffee.
In a world where coffee is almost everyone's to-go energy source, it might just brighten everyone's day to know that coffee can actually help you burn fat! A 2013 study in the journal of Nutrition and Metabolism found that certain compounds found in coffee can increase the breakdown of fat. That means that instead of burning through your energy reserve first, you'll burn that stubborn fat first! Researchers believe that this benefit is found in coffee, not just caffeine--so Red Bulls don't count!
