It’s tough to say how we’d act when faced with a public crisis. We’d all like to think that we’d step in and save the day, but when push comes to shove, many people are more comfortable having a professional help out. However, sometimes unexpected strangers step in when you least expect it.

Brittany McKee was shopping at Walmart with her husband when she came upon a frightening sight. An elderly woman appeared to have passed out on the floor. Thankfully, Brittany is a nurse and immediately sprang into action.

“As we were walking to the refrigerated section, we noticed a woman who had passed out and fallen on the floor.” she recalled. “Being a registered nurse, my first instinct was of course to stop, assess, and be there to help. She had regained orientation, but did say she was on blood thinners and felt dizzy.”

Brittany, who is also pregnant, stayed with the elderly woman until the paramedics could arrive. But she wasn’t allowed. The staff at Walmart was also there to help the woman in need.

“So I stayed with her, along with her daughter and the Walmart personnel, until the ambulance came and tried to encourage her to stay seated.” Brittany said. “The Walmart staff was amazing. They kept in contact with dispatch as we waited on the bus to arrive.”

Brittany was blown away by the helpful staff at Walmart, but by one individual in particular.
“Then there was Jason. I don't know his last name, but this man, no questions asked got down on the floor with this woman and supported her back so she could lean against him.” Brittany said. “He literally got down on the floor to serve her, not because he was asked to do it, he wasn't, but because he wanted to.”

Brittany snapped a photo of Jason using his back as support for the elderly woman, and the heartwarming incident caused her to think of what really matters, especially during a difficult time in our country: love and kindness.

“The media lately shows our country divided, filled with hate and racial tension, but this right here was one human being loving and serving another without condition of race or obligation. While we waited, another man stopped, knelt down and prayed over this woman. What I experienced today was love, kindness, and serving.” she wrote.

“We are human beings, each and every one of us regardless of how much pigmentation our skin has or doesn't have.” she continued, urging Facebook users to remember that “is real life, this is what it's all about, not hate”.

That heartwarming story and image received over 1.2 million likes on Facebook and garnered more than 498,000 shares.
