Can you imagine being awake during a major surgery? For some people, this is their biggest fear! Thanks to talented anesthesiologists, it’s nearly impossible for an event like this to occur, but it is still a horrifying thought.

Plastic surgery has become more and more commonplace these days, which unfortunately means that poorly done, dangerous plastic surgery is more common as well, as evidenced by the popular E! series “Botched”. In the reality show, experienced surgeons Dr. Terry Dubrow and Dr. Paul Nassif correct botched plastic surgeries, and some of them are almost too terrible to believe.

Their recent patient Lauren received a poor rhinoplasty procedure which left the tip of her nose misshapen. While that is frustrating in itself, the worst part was that Lauren said she wasn’t put under for the surgery! She recalled that the doctor put her under “twilight sleep” but she awake for the entire procedure.

“When someone’s put under twilight sleep, that means they’re breathing on their own, they’re giving them a little bit of medicine or IV.” Dr. Paul Nassif explained, saying that typically under “twilight sleep” the patient will easily doze off. “However, with me and the type of cases that we do, they are long procedures, and that’s why we like a full general anesthesia.” he continued.

Dr. Paul asked Lauren if he remembered the doctor going “tap, tap, tap” on her nose during the procedure, which she said she did. “I remember all of that!” she told him. “Whatever he was doing in there, I remember the whole thing.”

Dr. Terry Dubrow and Dr. Paul Nassif are clearly perturbed by Lauren’s experience, however they know that if they want to help her, they’ll have to figure out a way to fix her faulty nose job.

"If you don't give them the right anesthetic medication, which makes you forget everything, you're going to remember everything, especially like when they're breaking your nose and fracturing your bones.” Dr. Nassif told producers. How terrifying!

Dr. Dubrow jumped in the discussion with even more alarming news: "Waking up in the middle of a surgery gives you a post traumatic stress disorder a lot of the times and it can make you forever afraid of having surgery again."

“I do have that.” Lauren admitted to the doctors. Clearly, Lauren has chosen to overcome her fear so she can correct her misshapen nose and look the way she’s always wanted.
“You know as a doctor we stand up and do the hippocratic oath: ‘I will do no harm,’” Dr. Dubrow went on. “Your doctor did you harm!” he laughed.

The doctors tell Lauren they’ll do a full examination of her nose and see what they can do- hopefully they’ll be able to fix what the “harmful” doctor did previously.
