One morning, Irish mom Lena Lupari woke up to total darkness—she couldn’t see a thing.

Shocked and terrified, the 26-year-old mother of three was rushed to the hospital, where doctors soon diagnosed her with idiopathic intracranial hypertension.

According to the National Eye Institute, idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is a neurological disorder caused by pressure around the brain.

Although the disorder is usually found in people who suffer from obesity, Lupari soon discovered that her condition was caused by a cocktail of unhealthy habits.

Doctors told the scared mom that the unbelievable mixture of being overweight and drinking 28 cans of Red Bull a day had caused her symptoms to come on as suddenly as they did.

“I’d been suffering from migraines and headaches for about five years but I just ignored them and took painkillers… Then my vision went and I couldn’t even lift my head off the bed and I ended up in hospital for six days,” Lupari told The Daily Mail.

Since being hospitalized on June 18, Lupari has completely cut herself off from drinking Red Bull and has already lost 30 pounds.

Doctors say the determined mom may actually be totally symptom-free if she works hard and loses 100 pounds.

At 28 cans a day, Lupari had been consuming 3,000 calories and 2,240 milligrams of caffeine in Red Bull energy drinks alone.

Even on its website, Red Bull advises drinking no more than 400 mg (five 250 mg cans) in one day to avoid any adverse side effects of caffeine.
