Nong Chogun, ten years old, has been suffering from hydrocephalus since he was born. The debilitating condition allows for the accumulation of fluid on the brain, therefore making the head grow in size. Chogun, who lives with his grandparents in Vichienburi, which is a part of Petchburi province of Thailand, cannot have surgery.

According to The Sun, the little boy’s grandparents are very poor. They cannot afford to get their grandson treated. It wasn’t clear where his parents are. The family’s only source of income comes from selling flower garlands marketed to people for the use in religious ceremonies.

As Chogun turned ten years old, his head had bloated twice its natural size. He was abandoned by his parents and left to the care of his grandparents. They are very desperate to have the little boy be operated, for it can save her life

According to the information obtained by The Sun, “Hydrocephalus is a build-up of fluid on the brain. The excess fluid puts pressure on the brain, which can damage it. The damage to the brain can cause a wide range of symptoms, including headache, being sick, blurred vision and difficulty walking.

“The brain constantly produces new cerebrospinal fluid (about a pint a day), while old fluid is released from the brain and absorbed into the blood vessels. However, if this process is interrupted, the level of fluid can quickly build-up, placing pressure on the brain.

“Hydrocephalus most commonly affects infants and older people and can be present at birth, develop after birth or develop in older people. Babies born with the condition need immediate surgery to avoid being left permanently disabled. It can be successfully treated by placing a drainage tube in the head to remove the fluid.”

According to The Sun, Chogun had already underwent two operations to relieve some of the pressure before. However, the procedures had not proven to be successful at any rate. Doctors are now saying that they cannot give the family a guaranteed success with the help of future treatments.

Chogun’s beloved grandmother said, “My daughter could not look after her baby and we could not let a young child be left with strangers. We do not have much money but we will do everything we can to support our grandson.”

A family friend said, “I hope by posting this we can get some help for Chogun either by people sending money or even a doctor with a new procedure will come forward.”
