Kaylee Bonnet, 24 years old, recalled the traumatizing time she never left her home after she weighed 481 pounds. She told Cosmopolitan, “Kids and adults [would say awful things to me in public and give me dirty looks like I was a circus animal. I was constantly on the defense.”
When Bonnet was in high school, she weighed 300 pounds. She said that every day in her life was a long, continuous trial that kept on testing her.
She said, “From worrying about if I'll fit in this chair or if the chair will hold me, to trying to look nice and hoping that getting from point A to B doesn't make me sweat my hair and makeup off, I was constantly on the defense."
Bonnet found herself dealing with high blood pressure and at the edge of diabetes by the time she had reached her mid-20s. Her doctors gave her alarming news that a heart attack would ensue if she didn’t change anything with her lifestyle.
Bonnet said, “I didn’t want to die. You don’t get to go through life being 481 pounds.”
Bonnet invested time and money on getting gastric bypass surgery. But before she would have the procedure done, she had to complete a few tasks. Bonnet had to lose at least 30 pounds. She also had to decrease her daily calorie intake and focus on a diet that is more heavy on protein and low on carbohydrates.
Bonnet had her surgery last October 2016. She managed to lose 77 pounds in less than five months, according to Cosmopolitan. She walked a lot, went to Crossfit at least three times a week, and would only eat 800 calories a day, Natural sugars became her friend and high-fat foods her enemy.
Bonnet lost 169 pounds since she started losing weight. Her current goal is 225 pounds, which would still give her a lot of work to achieve it. Bonnet, who stands on 5 foot 9 inches, admitted that her work won’t stop there.
But what she liked the most was the noticeable change on her face. Her face looks slimmer and her jawline is becoming more defined. It had been quite easy for her to apply make-up and contour her face as well.
When she was talking about her transformation, Bonnet said, “The reactions of others are what surprises me, and it helps me see the change. The weight loss has truly changed my life. I'm actually living life, which I wasn't [doing] before."
