Dana Anhalt’s life became infected with multiple diseases and life-threatening conditions when she was only sixteen years old. Now that she’s 37, Anhalt continues to get followed by these pests due to the severe condition of her childhood home, the Metro reports.

Anhalt had been riddled with meningitis, constant sinus infections, frequent strep occurrences, migraines, and hormonal trouble because the home she grew up in was littered with black mold.

Anhalt eventually acquired allergies that made her lose weight until she reached seventy pounds. Anhalt, who’s from Huntington, New York, was recently diagnosed with Lyme disease. She received treatment, but her condition continued to fall.

Her family noticed an alarming smell coming from their basement. That’s when they realized that the whole apartment has been infested with poisonous black mold.

According to the National Health Services, any form of contact with these spores can severely cause asthma and allergic reaction. Doctors were quick to made Anhalt move out as soon as possible and leave all of her stuff behind.

Anhalt and her family had started a GoFundMe page to get a few donations and compensate the huge move.

Anhalt said, “I’ve spent all 37 years of my life slowly being poisoned from the inside out. The genetic testing was difficult to look at but it was also one of the most of vindicating things I’ve ever seen. Suddenly, decades of my experience made sense.”

Anhalt said that she was diagnosed Fibromyalgia, which is a condition that can cause enormous pain. Her mother passed away in 2012 and didn’t get any treatment.

Anhalt said, “By 2011 I was almost entirely bed bound, and by 2012 I was ravaged with muscle and joint pain so severe that I often vomited from the intensity. I was trapped in a body that could not articulate what I was going through or seek comfort in connection with others.”

Anhalt suffers from food allergies that could literally take her life if she doesn’t administer medicine or take care of herself carefully. However, pain medication won’t work on her for her body doesn’t respond well with it. She’s left with limited resources in enduring pain.

Anhalt said, “We rushed to find a new apartment and we had to leave all of our belongings, everything I had collected over the years, it was devastating.”

The family has raised more than $30,000 with the goal of $100,000 to help them purchase new furniture and medical costs.
