Sam Rees, 22 years old, was working at a construction site when he accidentally shot himself with a hydraulic nail gun, the Metro reports.
Rees shot himself in the crotch with a three and a half inch-long nail. He said that he misfired and the nail ricocheted into his crotch.
The nail managed to pierce through his groin, narrowly missing a major artery. The nail also almost hit his penis.
Rees said, “I was using a nail gun outside and unfortunately, I was using it to fire something towards me and the nail just ricocheted and went into my groin.”
He continued, “The nail was 90mm long and it was embedded 70mm deep. Doctors said it missed my artery by 10mm. If I had pulled it out myself I would have bled to death.”
Rees, who’s a construction worker from Port Talbot, was immediately taken to the emergency room. He had to undergo a minor surgery to remove the nail. The nail, which was three inches inside his body, almost hit a major artery.
Rees said, “I didn’t really realize how serious the whole thing was until I got to the hospital. I had to have minor surgery to take it out – but having the drip in my arm hurt more. I have been having a bit of stick from my colleagues. But if you do something stupid you expect it.”
Matthew Meagher, Rees’ coworker, took pictures of the discomforting sight. They were working together at a site near Swansea, Wales.
Meagher, who’s 30, said that Rees looked completely unfazed when they both discovered the nail in his crotch. Rees even asked him if he should pull the nail out. Meagher drove him for at least an hour to the nearest hospital.
Meagher, who has been in the construction industry for 15 years, said, “For want of a better phrase, the nail was pretty much through his d**k.”
He continued, “He came over to me and said he’d shot himself. It’s something that shouldn’t happen, and at first I couldn’t see anything. And then I saw it. I just went white. I couldn’t believe it. When we got to A&E we were told to wait, but when we showed them where the nail was his was rushed straight to surgery.
“It makes your eyes water. Even looking back I’m flinching. I’m very relieved it wasn’t me. I had a couple of dates coming up that weekend.”
Although Rees is still recovering from the injury, he and his nether area are in a much better state now.
