30-year-old Jon Woollard has never looked better – nor eaten more – in his life. The personal trainer eats seven meals a day, all of which totals to over 4,500 calories, but weighs just a trim 178 pounds.
Unless you saw him in his 20’s, you wouldn’t believe that just a couple years ago, Woollard weighed 224 pounds and didn’t ever bother hitting the gym.
Before Woollard overhauled his diet and lifestyle, he worked as a forklift driver and removal man. Each day, he subsisted on packaged foods – frozen dinners, chocolate, chips, and energy drinks. When he went to measure his stats, his body fat was at an “excessive” 30% of his total weight.
All of this changed when Woollard decided that he wanted to lose weight.
Initially, Woollard assumed he would be able to shed his excess pounds by just restricting his calorie intake. Although the number on the scale did go down, Woollard also lost muscle mass and regularly felt exhausted.
He knew he had to change strategies.
Woollard when went online to find out everything he could about health and nutrition. When he felt he’d accumulated enough information, he restructured his lifestyle and eating habits once more.
And this time, it was a major success.
“Cutting out meals and snacking on low calorie foods is not the way to achieve a long-term, healthy body transformation,” he explained. “When you suddenly eat much fewer calories your body goes into a type of energy saving mode, and your metabolism slows right down.”
Woollard has changed his diet so it focuses on clean eating, not calorie counting. All of his meals are made at home, from whole, healthy ingredients that give his body the energy it needs to get through the day, exercise, and more.
Now, Woollard helps his clients go through similar weight loss journeys he completed. His advice for anyone trying to lose weight?
“People should try to think more about what they're eating and how often rather than how much. Try and treat your body like an engine; without the right fuel you won't perform at your best.”
