Matthew Stager, 44 years old, is wanted by U.S. Marshals after he apparently broke the rule regarding his furlough, WTVR reports. Stager, who’s a convicted sex offender, didn’t return after he was given one single day for furlough.
According to WTVR, Stager was given a furlough in order to travel to Austin, Texas. On February 2, he was released from the Federal Correctional Complex in Petersburg, Virginia. He was required to report in person to a transitional center.
Stager signed a form declaring that he remained in the custody of the bureau of prisons until his official projected release date in July, WTVR reports.
With the evidence of his signature on the form, Stager agreed that if he failed to report to the Austin Transitional House as he was instructed to do, he would be charged with escape. Stager was last seen at the Richmond International Airport. He didn’t get on board his flight to Austin.
According to U.S. Marshals, Stager is nowhere to be found. Although he has no known relatives or connections to the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, authorities stated that he could’ve possibly traveled beyond that area.
Authorities have added that Stager has many connections in multiple states in the East Coast.
Stager was sentenced in North Caroline in 1999 for having indecent liberties with a minor. He was required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. Stager also had some dealings with drug abuse. He has also suffered from mental health issues.
Stager is described as a white or Hispanic male, 5’8” tall, 145 pounds, with blonde or strawberry hair, green eyes, and multiple facial tattoos. Enough to actually make another face.
People on Twitter, however, have a few concerns regarding Stager’s disappearance.
One user @1yungwilson retweeted a tweet containing Stager’s news article saying, “If I spot this guy Ima mind my damn business.”
@RealFrankBrizzle said, “hopefully their[sic] isn’t a slipknot reunion going on”
@SG4Three tweeted, “it[sic] going to be hard to distinguish him in a large crowd”
@RealistCyclops responded, “I’m sorry that my scarecrow escaped, I will be doing my best to get him back…”
If someone spotted Stager, you can provide the information to the U.S. Marshals at 1-877-926-8332.
Given Stager’s extremely distinguishable features, it wouldn’t be that difficult to spot him from a large group of people. However, his features could also terrify bystanders and would rather look the opposite side instead of waiting around and calling the cops for him.
