Mohammad Hasher, 17 years old, was planning on doing something nice for his sister, Noor, who’s 6 years old. The siblings’ parents had divorced, which naturally meant that things were pretty tough and difficult for the whole family.

Sadia Karamat told BuzzFeed News that her divorce with their father had made a huge impact on their lives, especially on young Noor.

One Saturday night, Noor was visibly upset because of an upcoming event at her school. The father-daughter dance was putting some pressure on her.

Mohammad said, “I heard about the dance the day of. I actually went downstairs and saw Noor sitting in a dress on the couch with a big frown on her face.”

He continued, “I wasn’t going to let my little sister be the one out of all her friends to not be at the dance.” He took her little sister to buy a new dress that was brighter and more fabulous than the one that she was supposed to wear.

During the dance, Noor won a box of candy because Mohammad was voted “Best Dad.” He said that she was very happy and really enjoyed dancing on the floor.

According to their mom, the family moved from Louisiana to Michigan and that they were homeless for a couple of months.

Mohammad said, “We’ve had to move states, been homeless, and have struggled continuously for the past few months. It has all been very hard on us, but we are thankful for how close it has brought us to each other.”

He continued, “To me [the dance] meant so much. It gave me a wake-up call on how important it is to be there for her.”

Mohammad posted the photos on Twitter. His tweet read, “Got to take my baby sister to her first daddy daughter dance the other night. Sorry you don’t have a dad but I’ll always be there for you.”

The tweet received more than 25,000 retweets and 104,000 likes. People responded with very sweet messages. Someone even called him “an amazing older brother.” The tweet and the story behind it made a lot of people emotional.

Mohammad said, “It’s nice to spread some positivity in such times of negativity. Shout-out to everyone who’s showing so much love and support!”

Mohammad documented the event by posting some snaps on Snapchat. Divorce really does take a toll every person involved, especially for those who are still innocent and young to understand what it all really means.
