85-year-old Lindell Marbut lives with his caretaker in Burleson, Texas. He relies on a cane to walk and is also becoming a little hard of hearing. But he doesn’t let his age hold him back.

Marbut lives just around the corner of a dangerous curve on FM 2738 in Texas. He knows the dangers of driving on this road, particularly since the speed limit is 55 mph.

Recently, a 22-year-old driver lost control of her car just in front of Marbut’s house. The car flipped and landed on his front lawn, immediately bursting into flames.

When this happened, Marbut’s caretaker, Sondra Young, rushed next door to use their phone to call 911.

Marbut rushed to the fiery vehicle.

The driver and her passenger were stuck inside, and he was determined to save their lives.

Young recalled, “When I got back over here this way, he was beating on the front windshield with a cane.”

The 85-year-old man can barely walk on his own without the support of his cane, but he managed to break the windshield of the car.

“I…seen this woman’s hand sticking out and I got her and pulled her out,” Marbut said. Then he proceeded to drag her into his garage.

At that point, Young was able to rush to his side and help him save the passenger of the car.

By the time first responders arrived at the scene, both women in the car were safe in Marbut’s garage. The car was still burning, but no one was in immediate danger.

They were stunned.

“For him to do that on his own was absolutely amazing,” one of the firefighters said.

People are calling Marbut a hero, but he doesn’t think of himself that way. “I just feel like an old man trying to save somebody’s life. I’d do it again if I had to,” he said.
