When Holly and Brandon Shay of Glendale, Arizona prepared to have more kids, they never planned for the celebration of their birth to be as significant as it ended up being.

On December 31, 2016 and January 1, 2017, Holly gave birth to her twin boys, ten minutes apart, but in two different years entirely.

Holly went into labor late in the day on Saturday, which is when she and her husband had their first premonition.

"As it was happening we were like, 'oh.' We had a little foreshadowing this could happen,” Brandon admitted. “And it did.”

The boys – Sawyer Matthew and Everett Jackson – were born naturally, not through C-section and not while their mother was induced. Sawyer, the firstborn, weighed 5 pounds 5 ounces. Everett, the younger of the two, weighed 4 pounds 8 ounces.

Their father jokes, “Everett was a little bit more stubborn so he wasn’t born until 12:01 a.m.”

Although Holly delivered her boys early, she’s still incredibly grateful that she was able to carry the twins for as long as she did.

"They are going to be amazing.  They already are.  They've already left their mark on this world," she gushed.

She and her husband are now resting in the hospital, eagerly waiting for their sons to be cleared, so they can return home to their two older daughters and reunite as a family.
