Ryan is a nine-year-old boy with Down syndrome and, sadly, a number of other health issues that have caused him to undergo eight surgeries for treatment.
For each one of these procedures though, Ryan has been accompanied by his best friend, a Mike Wozowski doll from the Disney movie, Monsters, Inc. Mike has helped comfort Ryan through periods of stress and fear, before, during, and after all of these operations.
When Ryan had to go in for his ninth surgery, his urologist, Dr. Travis Groth, couldn’t help but notice that Mike was also looking a little under the weather. There was a tear in the plush’s right arm.
Dr. Groth promised Ryan that after Ryan’s operation was finished, he would do his best at helping Mike feel better as well.
As soon as Ryan was out of danger post-op, Dr. Groth re-assembled his operating team around Mike. They even jokingly “identified” the patient before suturing Mike’s ripped arm.
The hospital can now confirm that both Ryan and Mike have since returned home and are recovering very well.
Evidently, all of the medical staff at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, where Ryan was treated, always make sure to go above and beyond their line of duty to not just treat their patients, but also make them feel loved and safe during their stay at the hospital.
We have nothing but gratitude for doctors like them!
