On Sunday morning, this mother in Payson, Utah, running errands at their local Walmart.
Just before she and her family went to check out, she reported to the store manager that she wasn’t feeling well. According to her, it was just a slight stomach problem. But she was also heavily pregnant.
After speaking to the manager, the mother and her family proceeded to register 11 to pay for their purchases as the manager called 911 and tried to get her to not worry about paying.
Everyone around her – customers and employees – could all tell that she was about to go into labor.
Walmart employee, Dustin Haight, recalled, “The funny thing is that the customer was down on her knees and she insisted on paying for her merchandise and we’re like you know that’s just not important. You know, we were going to take care of her on it.”
But even then, the woman insisted on paying.
Seconds later, she flipped onto her back and gave birth to her son.
Employees and customers all rushed to grab towels, blankets, and sheets to assist her in the makeshift space.
Haight laughed, “By the time the EMTs got here she had paid for her merchandise and had a baby.”
Thankfully, it was the mother’s third child so she remained incredibly calm throughout the entire incident. Her greatest worry was, assistant chief of Payson Fire Rescue speculated, perhaps that she was giving birth at a Walmart.
Mother and child were later taken to the hospital in good health, and doctors confirm that both are still doing incredibly well.
Haight reported that the employees at Walmart have renamed register 11 to “register baby,” in honor of the mother. “We’re gonna buy her a whole bunch of goods like diapers and formula, that type stuff when the mother comes in so,” he added, “and this time we won’t make her pay.”
