In Guangzhou, China recently, a father’s supermarket trip with his son took a tragic turn.
Security footage showed father and son holding hands while playing with each other – until the father accidentally slipped and fell backwards.
He landed right on top of his son, weight falling directly onto his child’s head and neck.
A woman nearby rushed to help him up and move the fallen son – but it was too late.
The child was pronounced dead at the hospital.
One of the pediatricians who saw the boy reported, “In the video, the man’s entire weight was on the upper body of the child, including the boy’s head and neck. The child might have suffered a cervical fracture.”
Doctors are now advising parents to not play with their children in this way and to not pick people up after they’ve potentially suffered from cervical injuries. If you haven’t had proper training, moving someone from this precarious position could be fatal.
