Five months ago, Anna Young gave birth to her daughter, for whom she continues to pump breast milk regularly throughout the day.
Just last week, Young participated in a half marathon – and refused to let it alter her own schedule.
Eight miles into the half marathon, Young pulled out her breast pump and pumped in the middle of the race. One of the half marathon photographers caught a photo of this moment, and Young has since posted it to Facebook.
“I nursed my daughter before I left my house,” Young wrote, “pumped after running the first 8 miles and nursed her after I made it past the finish line.”
She adds, that the Occupy Breastfeeding group and Le leche league “motivated [her] to find a way to run [her] race and take care of [her] daughter” at the same time.
Thus far, everyone who’s stumbled across the photo has offered nothing but praise for Young.
Other mothers who have also participated in half marathons admit that they wish they had the courage Young had to pump while walking, while others think Young has re-set the standard for “incredible mom.”
Even some men are joining the conversation, saying they’re “truly astounded. This is truly astronomical, that someone like you would go to such a length like this. Yes, this should be the norm everywhere.”
