At a hospital in Sonsonante, El Salvador, a young boy was admitted to receive treatment for a massive cyst that just wouldn’t stop growing. It had originally begun as a small lump, but eventually swelled to such a large size that it covered his entire left eye.
The doctor was able to diagnose it as a chalazion, a slow-growing, but persistent growth in a tear duct of an eye. Unfortunately, chalazions cannot fade away on their own and must be handled by a medical professional.
Dr. Alberto Cota was the professional who helped this poor boy – and filmed the entire process.
He first made an incision in the cyst with a scalpel, allowing all of the yellow pus and fluid in the cyst to drain out.
The video shows how this fluid quickly leaks out onto the bed and floor as the child moans.
Not long afterward, blood begins to ooze, and the doctor continues to squeeze the cyst until everything is completely drained.
Growths this large occur when an eye duct is clogged and left undrained, but are quite uncommon. Huge cysts like this one usually affect people between the ages of 30 and 50, not children.
Doctors do not advise patients to treat such large problems by themselves, but holding a warm compress to the area for five to ten minutes each day can help drain the clog naturally.
