Here's How Postpartum Moms Can Exercise With Their Babies

It’s difficult to shed baby weight after pregnancy, especially when having a child calls for so much of your time. If you’re struggling to find time to hit the gym, try some of these exercises at home – where you can even keep your baby by your side.

After having a child, it can be difficult to find time for yourself, let alone find the time to exercise. One fitness trainer, however, has found the perfect solution for all postpartum moms hoping to get back into a regular exercise routine while still tending to their kids.

NASM-exercise fitness trainer Melissa Paris is a mother of two (a 21-month-old son and a 2-year-old daughter) who has developed, with her business partner Anja Pierre, safe methods of exercising with your baby. These techniques all allow mothers to wear their babies in a carrier, effectively using their baby’s bodyweight as the weight in weight-bearing exercises.

Melissa and Anja have since co-founded BYOBfit (Bring Your Own Baby) in New York City, a certified group fitness class that is effective, safe, and beneficial to both mom and baby.

As it turns out, your baby can also benefit from you doing these exercises. The constant repetition of these exercises reminds your child of being in the womb. The physical proximity between mom and child also allows babies to feel “loved, safe, and secure.”

Some of the simpler moves include regular exercise moves like the bicycle, windshield wipers, and scissors. Watch the full video to learn all the suggested exercises.
