Just last week, the FDA released a public letter to Whole Foods regarding health code violations involving strains of the benign bacteria Listeria welshimeri. The presence of this bacteria, however, can easily lead to the potential of the listeria-causing bacteria Listeria monocytogenes to also grow within the store’s food storage and processes spaces.
This weekend, the FDA issued a recall on Green Cuisine “Pesto Pasta Salad with Arugula” – a product sold at Whole Foods stores under the name “Whole Foods Pesto Pasta Salad w/ Arugula” – because of its potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
While listeria is generally not fatal for healthy individuals, it can be fatal for young children, elderly individuals, and those with weak immune systems.
The FDA determined that the potentially contaminated products were sold in Southern California, Nevada, and Arizona on June 15 and 16. The “Whole Foods Pesto Pasta Salad w/ Arugula” came in a 7.4 oz, clear plastic container with the UPC Code 857898004333 and “best by” date 6/20/16.
If you bought this product, you should toss it immediately, or bring it back to the store from which you bought it for a refund.
