Fitness trackers are constantly hard at work, counting your calories, steps, and heart rate—even when you’re doing absolutely nothing.
In fact, many fitness trackers are waterproof, which is why we’re so surprised to hear this shocking story from South Korea.
A 13-year-old girl with a Misfit Shine fitness tracker was taking a dip when she decided to put the device in her mouth, presumably to keep it from being submerged in water.
Unsurprisingly, the idea didn’t quite pan out and the teen ended up swallowing the fitness tracker while she was swimming.
While doctors did manage to extract the tracker from the child’s esophagus without causing any internal damage, they were absolutely shocked by what happened to the device.
Through the 30 hours that the device was in her system, it counted all of her steps, burned calories, and sleep—all from inside her body!
Obviously, this report isn’t meant to encourage kids to swallow their fitness trackers, but it’s still a remarkable story.
