A woman who started going through menopause at 27 finally got the chance to become a mom after a freak cycling accident suddenly kick-started her hormones.

Now 43, Kate Mansbridge gave up her dreams of becoming a mom more than a decade ago after starting menopause in her 20s.

It wasn’t until she was hit by a car while riding her bike through France that, in a bizarre way, Mansbridge finally got the miracle she’d been waiting for.

The impact from the car ended up shattering bones in Mansbridge’s pelvis and legs and caused serious brain injuries that led to a life-threatening stroke.

Mansbridge’s injuries were so catastrophic that doctors weren’t sure she would ever be able to walk again.

But as luck would have it, the injuries also released an intense rush of adrenaline to the part of Mansbridge’s brain that’s responsible for reproductive hormones.

The “extremely rare” chemical change essentially restarted Mansbridge’s monthly cycles, giving her the chance to get pregnant.

“When I told the doctor she told me she'd never seen a case like this in her career but she had heard it was possible – as in effect my body had rebooted itself,” she said, according to The Daily Mail. “I'd wanted to have children and with the start of my monthly cycle I had the incredible realisation that one day, I might become a mother.”

Three years after the life-altering accident, Mansbridge gave birth to her miracle baby, Ruby.

“While on the one hand, my legs were smashed to pieces and I was initially told I'd never walk again, on the other, the most extraordinary and incredible thing happened to me,” she said. “It meant I was able to conceive my daughter Ruby – the daughter I'd always wanted.”

“So while it was the worst thing that ever happened to me, it also turned out to be the best thing that had ever happened to me as well,” she added. “Without the accident I'd never have been able to have her.”
