Your washing machine is a real trooper when it comes to keeping all your clothes fresh and squeaky clean; but sometimes, you have to give a little to get a little.
After load upon load of dirty, sweaty, stained clothes, your washing machine might not seem quite as clean as you’d like it to be.
Most people don’t realize that a washing machine needs to be cleaned every once in a while—at least, not until it’s too late.
To prevent your washing machine from cleaning your clothes in a dirty environment, you need to wash it at least two or three times a year.
Luckily, no matter what type of washing machine you have, distilled white vinegar is all you need to keep it running in tip-top shape.
So, without further ado, here’s how to properly clean any washing machine:
Front loading washing machine
Make sure to select the hot water setting for the largest load possible. Next, add about 1 to 2 cups of distilled white vinegar to the dispenser. Turn on the machine and let it run one full cycle. That’s it! Once the cycle finishes, gently wipe down the seal and drum to remove any leftover residue.
Older top loading washing machine
Fill the machine with the hottest water you can get your hands on and set the time to the longest setting it offers. Next, add about 3 cups of distilled white vinegar. Do NOT turn the machine on just yet! Let the solution work its magic for 30 minutes. After that, turn on the machine for one full cycle.
Newer top loading washing machine
Most newer top loading washing machines actually have their own “clean” settings. Make sure to select that setting before pouring in 2 cups of distilled white vinegar. Let the clean setting run its cycle, and relax!
