More than 4,000 pounds of chicken nuggets have been recalled after consumers discovered small pieces of plastic inside their food.
Purdue Foods announced the immediate recall of their popular Applegate Naturals frozen Chicken Nuggets after receiving multiple customer complaints of "small, solid, clear plastic" inside the nuggets.
According to the recall details, parents who purchased these frozen chicken nuggets should look out for eight-ounce boxed packages of "Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets," with best-buy dates of September 27, 2016.
The products affected by the recall should include approximately 18 frozen chicken nuggets; and parents should also check inside the USDA mark of inspection for an "establishment number" of P-2617.
Although there have been no reports of children being hurt or sickened by the recalled chicken nuggets, both Purdue Foods and Applegate Farms are urging parents to throw out or return their affected boxes immediately.
According to the announcement, the recalled boxes were distributed to retailers in Georgia, Florida, Indiana, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
Thankfully, the company has already identified where the plastic came from—"the final stages of mixing and producing the product"—so they are already working on making sure that no other products have been compromised by this mistake.
