There are few things quite as useful and versatile as white vinegar; it cleans, disinfects, eliminates odor, fights mold—the list goes on and on.

But if vinegar is such a handy cleaner to keep around the house, why isn’t everybody using it as their go-to disinfecting spray?

The answer is pretty simple: it kind of stinks.

Vinegar is so powerful that it can easily combat any funk around the house, but its distinctly potent scent isn’t for everyone.

That’s why we absolutely love this ingenious new DIY vinegar spray on the website Green Talk.

The secret to creating a simple vinegar spray that cleans just about any surface and smells fantastic is orange peels!

All you need to get started is one glass jar, a bottle of white vinegar, a few orange peels, and a couple of lemon peels.

Here’s how to get started on your very own Orange Peel Vinegar cleaner:

  1. Store all your extra orange and lemon peels (you can freeze them too) and transfer them to your glass jar.
  2. Once you have as many orange and lemon peels as you can save, fill the entire jar with white vinegar.
  3. Let the solution sit on your counter for about two weeks to allow the oranges just enough time to mix in with the vinegar.
  4. After those two weeks are up, strain the liquid into an empty spray bottle and throw the leftover peels into a composter.
  5. Mix the cleaning spray with water using a ratio of 2:1.
  6. Start cleaning around the house with your with your homemade citrus spray!
