Wouldn't it be great if you didn't have to work out, spending what feels like hours running on a treadmill or lifting weights? Sitting down with your favorite TV show and a glass of red wine sounds so much better, but it's just not healthy. Or, is it?
New research shows that drinking a glass of red wine has the same effect as spending an hour running on a treadmill, according to two different studies. The University of Alberta in Canada conducted a study in which findings concluded that red wine contains Resveratrol.
Resveratrol is a polyphenol shown to be good for the heart and to burn fat. While the suggestion is, of course, not to stop exercising completely, the head researcher, Jason Dyck, suggests that red wine could help people who don't have the physical ability to exercise, or those who only exercise once in a while.
Oregon University also conducted a study. Their findings suggest that the resveratrol can slow the growth rate of a body's fat cells. The university only studied Muscadine grape wine, however, so more research would need to be done to strengthen the findings.
It might be tempting to skip the gym and head to the wine cellar instead, but remember, you can always have too much of a good thing. For the most effective results, stick to one glass per day and go for a run on that treadmill a few times per week.
