Kayla Brandon was just standing in church when she was hit with nausea like she had never felt before.

She thought she was just coming down with a flu, which was unfortunate but was something she could deal with.

She felt increasingly nauseous and fatigued, and lost her appetite.

The next day, she was violently ill.

So she went to urgent care, thinking they might give her some medication, or let her know what kind of stomach flu she had.

That’s when her doctor gave her some shocking news: she had E. coli.

First, Kayla was confused. How could she have E. coli?

The doctor asked her what she’d eaten in the past few days. She replied that she was a fairly healthy eater, and had eaten things like salad, chicken, and grapes.

She didn’t think any of these foods were likely to cause problems, but her doctor replied in the contrary.

She had X-rays to confirm that she had E. coli, and sure enough, they showed that her colon was severly inflamed. Her doctor said that her “healthy” diet made her a perfect target for E. coli infection.

She asked what the most likely food was that triggered her infection.

He replied that most likely, grapes were to blame. They’re the food she eats the most, and they’re a commonly contaminated food.

Anywhere from 200,000 to 800,000 people get food poisoning every day, and one-third of these cases come from produce.

Even rinsing your produce thoroughly doesn’t guarantee that you won’t get sick from them.

If you really want to clean them, you can try rinsing them in apple cider, vinegar, and water to burn off the bacteria.

For Kayla, she had to suffer through a week without meats, fruit, or veggies. It just goes to show that you should thoroughly wash your foods, and listen to your body when it seems like something isn’t right.
