A new recall has deemed certain jars of Skippy peanut butter dangerous to consumers.
But don’t worry, the recall is pretty small. And luckily, we have all of the important info so you can make sure you’re not affected.
Hormel recalled 153 cases of Skippy Reduced Fat Peanut Butter Spread. The recall is for 16.3 ounce jars only. They have a “Best If Used By” date of “DEC1416LR1”, and their UPC code is 37600-10500.
The jars went to Publix, Target, and Walmart in seven states. These states were Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Delaware, and Arkansas.
If this matches the peanut butter you have in your cabinet, it’s time to throw it out. Don’t worry, there’s plenty of other jars of Skippy peanut butter out there.
The peanut butter is being recalled because it’s possible it may contain metal shavings. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration reported on their website that these metal shavings were found during an in-line magnet check during a cleaning. The FDA warns that any piece of metal greater than 7mm in length can cause injury, such as choking or gastrointestinal perforation.
This sounds scary, but if you’ve eaten some of your peanut butter without incident, you’re probably fine. No one has reported any customer injuries, incidents, or complaints as of yet, so you are at little risk if it hasn’t already happened to you.
If you have experienced problems from eating this peanut butter, report them to the FDA. Otherwise, if you have it, throw it out.
