5 Shocking Things Botox Can Do

It's not just for fixing your wrinkles anymore. Find out what else Botox can do!

Botox gets a bad rap. After the mid-2000s Botox craze, it’s mostly associated with frozen expressions and empty eyes.

But Botox can actually be pretty useful when used in the right context. It has legitimate medical purposes alongside the more…extraneous ones.

Here are just a few:

  1. Migraines. For people who suffer from severe or chronic migraines, Botox may be just the treatment they need. It’s not a cure, but it is an FDA approved-treatment, and those who have used it say they saw significant reduction in the number of migraines they had.
  2. Strabismus. This is when people don’t have control over their eye movements. Injecting their eye muscles with Botox can help people gain control over their eye movement, and can reduce deviation by around 60 percent.
  3. Upper limb spasticity. This is a common condition after stroke or brain injury, as well as with multiple sclerosis. Certain muscles may spasm at random times, and be tight and tense to the point of pain. Injecting them with Botox can make these muscles functional again.
  4. Overactive bladder. This is a problem of older women, and people with neurologic conditions like multiple sclerosis. This condition could come with incontinence, too, which can be embarrassing for patients. By injecting Botox into the bladder, it can treat the symptoms for around twelve weeks.
  5. Excessive armpit sweating. We’re not talking about getting really sweaty after a run or when you’re nervous. People who suffer from this experience sweaty armpits for no apparent reason. When botox is injected in the sweat glands, patients can expect dry armpits for up to six months.
