You may be doing things that seem like a good idea for your skin, but they’re actually damaging it more than you realize.
The good news is that if you want to take good care of your skin, it’s not too late to start.
So here are some things you may be doing wrong.
- Popping your zits. Even just picking at them will make them a bigger problem than they were before. Touching a blemished area just introduces bacteria to an area that’s already inflamed. If you leave it alone, you avoid infection and scarring.
- Overwashing your face. If you’re washing too often or with cleanser that’s too harsh, your skin could be left dry and unable to defend itself. Choose a light cleanses with a low lather in order to keep your skin from being overwashed.
- Overexfoliating skin. If you think that exfoliation is the one step to soft, clean skin, you’re missing a bunch of steps. After exfoliating, you should be using a light moisturizer to make sure your skin doesn’t dry out.
- Roughhousing your skin. Picking, pulling, rubbing, and stretching, are all not things that the skin on your face should necessarily do. This can cause damage to the skin on the face and leave you with marks and sags and wrinkles that you didn’t anticipate.
- Using so many products. All you need is one or two products that can really help, not a bunch that can clog you up. One or two products, like a good moisturizer, cleanser, and sunscreen, can have you set for a while.
- Being lazy with your skin routine. Cleansing in the morning and evening is the best thing to do for healthy skin. And make sure to always remove all makeup before you go to sleep.
