If you’re a functional human adult (and you probably are, even if you don’t feel like one), there are some things about your health that you just have to know by now. It’s part of taking care of yourself, and you’ll feel better if you know.
- How do you like to do your physical activity? It’s important for you to know what kind of exercise you like by the time you’re an adult. Having an activity you love that gets you moving can keep your mood up and your risk for heart disease at bay.
- What diseases or illnesses run in your family? This important to know as you get older because you can more easily know what you’re at risk for, and your doctor can help tailor your care based on your family’s history.
- What allergies do you have? Maybe you have a common pollen allergy, or maybe you’re allergic to peanuts. This information is invaluable to keep yourself out of harm’s way. Not only that, but you should keep constant tabs on your allergies, as new ones can develop over time.
- What chills you out? When you’re under severe stress, you put yourself at risk for heart problems and weight gain, among other things. Whatever calms you down, whether it’s a long bike ride or a night of watching movies, you should do it if it makes you relieve stress.
- What vaccines do you have, and which do you still need? The ideal answer is that you have all of them, but some may need a booster by now. Things like meningitis are totally preventable with a vaccine, but are fatal to adults without it.
- What’s your sleep schedule? You can’t stay up until four and wake up for work three hours later forever. Adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep per night, so any way you need to adjust your habits to get that much sleep, do it.
Overall, learning to listen to your body and mind is a long process, but it’s essential to live a full and healthy life.
