The Pumpkin Spice Latte is perhaps the most loved drink of the fall season.
But as health concerns have increased, Starbucks remained pretty closed off about what’s actually in our favorite seasonal latte.
Until now.
Starbucks released a statement yesterday with exciting news: Pumpkin Spice Lattes will now be made with real pumpkin!
That is the one thing, after all, that consumers were so concerned about. For all that it tasted delicious and we knew how many calories were in it, we knew there was no real pumpkin in there.
For all anyone could tell, all that was in there was caramel coloring, artificial flavoring, and lots and lots of sugar. What did we expect?
But food blogger and amateur nutritionist Vani Hari had a problem with this, and made this lack of real pumpkin a huge deal. Before Starbucks knew what was coming, consumers were up in arms, asking why there wasn’t any actual pumpkin in their PSLs.
And it looks like Starbucks listened. ##MN_RESP##
“After hearing from customers and partners about ingredients, we took another look at this beverage and why we created it so many years ago,” said Starbucks exec and drink creator Peter Dukes.
“It was simple—espresso, perfectly steamed milk, warm fall spices with the delicious flavor of pumpkin pie that reminds you of the cool, crisp days of autumn. So, with that great taste you know and love, the PSL returns this fall, and this time it will be made with real pumpkin and without caramel coloring.”
The pumpkin in the new Pumpkin Spice Lattes will come from pumpkin puree. There’s no release date for the new version of the drink yet, but let’s hope it’s soon!
