Does it make you nervous to think that joining a gym means spending $50 a month on something you may not even use?
That’s okay! Here are some ways you can spend less money and still make the most of your gym!
- Try paying per visit. This may sound like the opposite of a money saver, but as it turns out, it could save you up to $300 per year. If you know you probably won’t get to the gym as much as you want to, just pay every time you go instead of shucking out money every month that you could be using for something else.
- Ask about a trial visit. A lot of gyms will offer free trial days or weeks, meaning you can see if you actually like the gym before committing to it.
- Ask about a free training session. A lot of places offer one free personal training session. This is a great way to get to know the equipment as your gym, as well as provide you with ideas for workouts.
- Pay ahead. Lots of gyms offer discounts if you pay for the whole year, that can save you up to 20 percent off. But make sure it’s an established gym, and that you’re clear about what would happen to your money if they went out of business.
- Freeze your membership. If you know you won’t be going to the gym, either if you’re going out of town or just a busy month ahead, see if you can have your membership frozen. That way you still have it, but you don’t have to pay for it when you know you won’t be able to use it.
- Negotiate your entrance fee. A lot of times, that huge up-front payment is totally negotiable. ##MN_RESP##
- Don’t buy water or snacks at your gym. A lot of times the prices are inflated, and the products aren’t healthy enough to be worthit. Bring your own water, use the water fountiain, and fuel up for pre- and post-workout at home.
- See if your health insurance will help. A lot of health insurance providers will offer gym discounts or reimbursements for memberships. But they won’t tell you that unless you ask!
All these savings are right at your fingertips! Now, get yourself to the gym!
