10 'Healthy' Foods That Have MORE Sugar Than a Krispy Kreme Doughnut

Sugar has a sneaky way of showing up in foods that are supposed to be "healthy," but some of these nutritious foods have way more sugar than we ever imagined. Read on to see which foods have more sugar than a Krispy Kreme doughnut!

When it comes to dieting, many of us see sugar as the number one enemy that we need to defend our bodies against.

Of course, your body does need sugar to survive, but according to the World Health Organization, we’re only supposed to consume around 25 grams a day—the equivalent of 2 ½ Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

You except to find the sweetness of sugar in plenty of foods, like candy, desserts, fruit, etc. But did you know that even your hamburger may contain sugar?

What’s more surprising is how many so-called “health” foods actually contain way more sugar than a Krispy Kreme doughnut!

Don’t believe us? Then take a look at all these foods that really do contain more sugar than one original glazed Krispy Kreme doughnut (10 grams of sugar):

  1. Campbell’s Classic Tomato Soup: This classic creamy soup contains about 20 grams of sugar—that’s nearly an entire day’s worth!
  2. Original Yoplait Yogurt: With a whopping 33 grams of carbohydrates, about 27 grams of them come solely from sugar.
  3. Luna Bar: Ladies love snacking on Luna bars to watch their weight, but you might want to take a closer look at that nutrition label. Just one bar contains anywhere from 11 to 13 grams of sugar.
  4. Dried Fruit: Since all fruits are already sweet, the added sugars in dried fruit really only take away from their nutritional value. One serving of dried fruit may contain as much as 18 grams of sugar.
  5. Low-Fat Milk: Reduced-fat milk is an excellent source of protein, but it’s also surprisingly high in sugar. Just one 8-ounce glass contains about 11 grams of sugar.
  6. Granola: Whole grains are supposed to provide you with a healthy dose of carbs, protein, and fiber to keep you going throughout the day. Unfortunately, many brands—like Quaker 100 per cent Natural Granola—can contain more than 13 grams of sugar per serving.
  7. Tropicana OJ: Not-from-concentrate juices contain the highest amount of sugar. Still, it’s shocking to learn that a 10-ounce glass of Tropicana OJ contains 26 grams of sugar—more than you need in an entire day! ##MN_RESP##
  8. Kind Fruit & Nut and Almond & Coconut Bars: Kind bars have been under fire lately for the high amounts of sugar they contain. These two in particular contain about 13 grams of sugar each—more than a Krispy Kreme doughnut!
  9. Raisin Bran Cereal: Though Raisin Bran tends to be our go-to “healthy” cereal, this fiber-packed breakfast actually contains a whopping 17 grams of sugar per serving.
  10. Odwalla Superfood Smoothie: Last, but not least, this so-called “nutritious” drink contains a shocking 49 grams of sugar—that’s the equivalent of nearly 5 Krispy Kreme doughnuts and two days’ worth of your recommended daily sugar intake.

Which one of these surprised you the most? Tell us in the comments!
