The SECRET to Growing Longer, Shinier, Thicker Hair is in Your Refrigerator

Hair feels like it takes forever to grow, especially if you're trying to grow out a short haircut. Read on for the secret to growing longer, healthier hair fast!

We’ve all made last-minute hair decisions that we start regretting before it even happens.

After seeing a cute haircut on TV, we all want to know what it feels like to step outside on a windy day, without eating a handful of hair.

So, you make a big decision and ask your trusty hair stylist to go ahead and chop off 10 inches, just like she’s always wanted to.

But what happens when you look in the mirror and suddenly realize your cute bob doesn’t actually look like Rachel’s did in Friends?

As we all know, hair doesn’t grow back overnight—no matter how much “dead hair” your stylist said she was cutting off to help it grow back healthier.

The good news is that your split ends are gone! And the other good news is that you really can speed up the time it takes for your hair to grow back.

Excited to know the secret to longer, shiner, healthier hair? Well, you probably already have it in your refrigerator.

Grow Longer Hair with Onion Water

Onions are more than just a healthy, flavorful vegetable. They also work magic when it comes to growing longer, stronger, healthier hair—super fast! Onion juice helps hair grow by providing circulation and vital nourishment to the hair follicles. It also has the power to kill germs and parasites that have been known to cause major hair loss. Believe it or not, part of the reason onions are so good for your hair is that they contain high amounts of sulfur, which can help regenerate hair follicles and decrease inflammation.

How to Make Onion Water

To test out this unique trick for longer, softer hair, chop a fresh onion into smaller sections. Next boil the pieces in about 3 cups of water for 10-15 minutes. After letting it cool down a bit, dump the onion water into an air tight container (or try using a spray bottle).

Best Way to Use Onion Water

One batch of water should last you about a week, especially if you decide to keep it inside a spray bottle. For the best results, shampoo and condition your hair first. Next, massage the onion water into your damp hair, starting at the scalp and working it through to the ends. Depending on how damaged your hair feels, leave the water on for about 5-10 minutes. Once the onion water has settled into your hair, rinse it out with lukewarm water.

What to Expect from Onion Water

You should start noticing an obvious difference in the way your hair looks and feels immediately after your first wash. Over time, the water will start making your hair look/feel shinier, glossier, softer, fuller, and—eventually—longer! As long as you’re only making about one batch a week, it’s safe to keep the water in the shower with you. Because the water is made from onions, don’t expect it to smell like roses inside your steamy bathroom when you open the bottle. The good news is that the smell won’t linger in your hair! It will smell fairly potent when you first coat your hair, but the scent washes out the moment you rinse.
