Oftentimes, people are unaware of just how inactive they truly are in their day-to-day lives. Many people are faced with this dilemma because their daily routine doesn't require much action. For instance, a person can easily be faced with his problem if they work a full time job that doesn't require much physical movement or if a person is a student who sits in a class and studies at a library all day.

Walking is an important exercise to incorporate into our lives, but it can be easy to not walk as much as we should. An efficient way to put a stop to your sedentary lifestyle is to invest in a pedometer. That's right, invest. Even though pedometers are not that expensive, they are still an investment because they can be the key to increasing how much you move and walk around during the day.

One of the best aspects about the pedometer is that it is very simple to use. Once you begin using it, you may find that you start setting goals for yourself. This is exactly what you want to happen! If you so wish, try turning your total number of steps per day into a fun self-competition and try to top how many steps you took the day before. Another helpful way to increase your activity level is to make a record of how many steps you take every day. If you start a journal where you write down your daily steps, you will easily be able to keep track them and improve.

It's important to know the pedometer will record all the steps you take throughout your entire day, so you don't have to do all the walking at once. This is good if you have a busy schedule and don't have time to dedicate to a gym.

Pedometers are most accurate when used to record walking. Using it to record running or jogging will not be as accurate.

In order to make sure your pedometer works and is giving you the correct information, test it out! Place it on your waist and count in your head 50 steps. If the pedometer is nowhere near 50, then you should try readjusting it. Make sure you have placed it tightly on your waistband!

Happy walking!
